Hope

When we were growing up my mother used to always say that she either wanted to be a hippie or a cowboy. Somehow she ended up in the middle, a trapped free spirit with a passion for horses and every other critter that needed a home. The very idea of being a hippie used to be a joke among us all.

Before having kids I was a firm believer in technology, everything new, everything modern. As a parent I think you are given such a wonderful insight into the way the world affects people. All of a sudden technology is the enemy, a way to bog down your childs mind and take away the very thing that makes children children.

My husband tells me all the time that I am a hippie in denial. At first I would frown and give him a look, but now the frown is a shrug and the look is a hope.
